FAQ

Frames

What size frame should I buy?

Frames are measured by the back opening. That means, if you have an 8x10 image, then you need an 8x10 frame. Front display will be .25" smaller all around due to the recess in the back of the frame. e.g 8x10 fame will have a front display opening of 7.5" x 9.5".

What style frames do you offer?

We offer 3 different frame styles, Natural, Farmhouse, and Rustic Painted.

Natural: A choice of Pine or Aspen, sanded to a smooth finish with an option of an added clear coat or left unfinished

Farmhouse: Made from our rough-cut/rough sawn lumber showing knots, dents and saw marks. Comes in 5 antique/distressed stains and is made to look vintage and imperfect. Sealed in a satin finish.

Rustic Painted: Made from our rough-cut/rough sawn lumber. Hand painted in two styles, solid or distressed. Visible saw marks give this frame a unique rustic and vintage look with either painted finish. Sealed in a satin finish.

What type of wood do you use?

All our frames are made with either Pine and Aspen. Both harvested here in Northern Michigan using sustainable forestry practices.

What Natural Frame wood type should I buy?

Pine: a softer wood than Aspen. Has a deeper color which ranges from pale yellow to brown with darker grain. Paints well and recommend for staining.

Aspen: The lightest of the two with consistent color ranging from white to creamy beige with light grain. Paints extremely well but not recommend for staining.

Both look great left natural.

Is there any type of finish on the Natural Frames?

Our natural Pine and Aspen frames can be purchased with a clear satin finish or left unfinished. If wanting to keep the natural look the clear finish will prevent the wood from naturally darkening over time.

If you plan on painting or staining your frame make sure to choose the unfinished option.

Does the frame include hanging hardware?

Yes. All our frames include saw-tooth hangers that you install, letting you hang them horizontally or vertically. They are self-tapping and easily hammer into the wood. The frame is marked on the back as to where the hangers should be installed. Our smaller frames will also include a dowel stand for table-top display.

Why don’t all your frames include glass?

Glass for the larger frames would be too heavy and fragile to ship. It's safer and more economical to source the glass locally.

Where should I buy glass?

Home Depot, Lowe's, Michael's or any local hardware or hobby store should carry glass / plexiglass for your frame.
